Parental Consent

What you're agreeing to

Focal VT is a home vision-therapy program provided by Wise Eyes LLC (Southfield, Michigan) and prescribed by your child's eye doctor. By creating an account you confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian of the child who will use it, and that you consent to their use of the program and to the collection described below.

This is prescribed care, not a diagnosis

Focal VT does not diagnose any condition and is not a substitute for an eye examination. Your child's doctor decides whether the program is appropriate, sets what they do, and interprets the results. If your child develops new or worsening symptoms — headaches, double vision, eye pain, a sudden change in vision — stop and contact your doctor rather than continuing the exercises.

What we collect

• Your account — email address and a password we store only as a hash.
• Your child's first name and birth year, so exercises can be age-appropriate and the doctor knows whose results they're reading.
• Exercise results — scores, how long each session ran, which demands were reached, and how consistently your child trains.
• Screen and glasses calibration, stored on the device so targets are drawn at the right size and color.

We do not ask for a home address, date of birth, school, or any government identifier. We do not sell data, and we do not use it for advertising.

About the camera

One exercise (Chompers) can use the device camera to check that the lens paddle is actually being turned over. This matters clinically: without it, a score can look fine when the exercise wasn't really done.

No image, video, or photograph ever leaves the device. The camera feed is reduced to a 48×36 grid — far too coarse to show a face — and the program only measures whether the picture changed. Nothing is recorded, stored, or uploaded. Only the resulting count of detected flips is saved. Your browser will ask permission first, and you can decline: the exercise still works, and the doctor simply sees that the flip check was unavailable.

Who can see your child's results

You can, and so can the prescribing doctor and their clinical staff. That's the point of the program — the doctor reviews progress and adjusts what's prescribed between visits. Nobody else has access. Wise Eyes LLC staff access individual records only when you or the doctor ask us to for support, or where the law requires it.

Your child's privacy

The program is designed for children and we only collect what the therapy needs. There is no advertising, no third-party tracking, and no social features — your child cannot be contacted by other users, because there are none.

You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us or your doctor. We will delete your account and your child's data on request, subject to any records your doctor is independently required to keep as part of their medical record.

Supervision

The exercises are designed to be done by a child, but younger children generally need an adult nearby — particularly for the lens paddle and for getting the viewing distance right. Sessions are about fifteen minutes. If your child is tired, sore, or frustrated, stop for the day; pushing through does not speed up progress.
